I'm a bookworm. There's no denying it. I love reading. But I cannot step into a bookstore without making a purchase. This may not seem like a huge issue to some, but for a student on a miniscule budget it's a big deal! But, from this problem has stemmed my New Year's resolution. It's not the cliche 'new year, new me, time to get fit and become spiritual' crap, it's something doable. I think.

There, I said it. It's out in the open. No turning back now!
My latest book purchase completely disregarded this rule, but there's still one day left of 2014 so it doesn't count, right? I currently am reading Lolita, the scandalous classic that seems to be taking forever to finish. On the waiting list is my latest buy, If I Stay (which I need to see the film adaptation of stat!) and the timeless To Kill A Mockingbird. I must be having a moment with classics, as F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby also has a bookmark firmly wedged between page 10 and 11. My previous obsession involved memoirs, especially that of Tara Moss, whose The Fictional Woman literally changed my outlook on life. Hooray for strong, independent, intelligent and successful women!
Now, I have a question for you!

UPDATE: If I Stay was read from cover to cover in 2 days, and I am currently loading the movie onto my computer. I sincerely hope the movie does the story justice, and the intense emotions are adequately translated into film. I am saving up to buy the next book in the series, Where She Went, as the last one ended on such a cliffhanger! Also on my updated 'To Be Read' list is Eat Pray Love, which I plucked from my mother's extensive book collection. I swear it was the only book that wasn't about murder! haha. She's an avid Kathy Reichs fan, as am I. I might have to read some more Reichs works soon, if I finish my list early!

introductions & intent || Shelley Timms || Ada & Grace
Hi all, and welcome to my latest journalistic venture, Ada & Grace. Let me begin by introducing myself, and explaining the things I wish to achieve by launching this blog.
My name is Shelley, and I am currently a Journalism student at university. I grew up in a small town, and moved to the city in early 2014. While this was a massive change in lifestyle, it has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have discovered my passion for writing, hence the creation of this blog.
After doing some research regarding potential careers of the online variety, I discovered that employers usually require some evidence of literary talent, creativeness and consistency of content. I hope to expand, improve and learn new writing skills, and the only way to do that is to practice! As time passes and Ada & Grace progresses, I have faith that the content will only get better.
Ada & Grace will contain ramblings of whatever comes to mind, including personal experiences, reflections, lifestyle and beauty pieces, reviews and (hopefully) comedic pieces. I aim to write about what I'm reading, watching, eating or listening to. I am open to constructive criticism, comments, questions and interactions with other bloggers. I am looking forward to connecting with others online, and putting my thoughts and ideas out in the open to be read and discussed. I hope, dear reader, that you enjoy my blog posts and I cannot wait to begin this new chapter in my journalism journey!
